The neighbors once told me they weren’t worried about running over the kids playing in the street; it was me they were concerned about. I’ve always been an adrenaline junkie from skateboarding to dirt bike racing to crotch rockets, etc! I’ve been broken more than once and remember jumping off the house when I was a kid with a trash bag… that didn’t end too well. As a kid I dreamed I could fly; when I would wake up I always tried to fall back asleep hoping I could fly again.

One day a neighbor of mine asked me if I had seen Tucker Gott on YouTube. I started watching his videos and immediately knew I had to find a way to get into the sky on a paramotor; I’d been bitten by the PPG bug. My goal is to grow Carolina PPG and share this amazing sport, for I have seen and experienced how it is life-changing.

When students complete their first flights, I’m just as excited as they are. Absolutely one million percent in love with this sport… I can’t imagine my life without it.

I started my private pilot’s license in 1998, completed ground school and numerous hours but ultimately decided the ongoing expense was too great and needed to find a cheaper hobby. Life happened… marriage, mortgage, children (you know the story), and I put aviation on hold.

Fast forward twenty years… as I was driving my son to early morning football practice, I often noticed an individual flying over nearby fields. Like others before me, I jumped on the World Wide Web and found the World of Powered Paragliding (PPG). I located a nearby school in Fayetteville, NC, and wished I had discovered the sport years ago.

I am so blessed and hope to help others who are interested in PPG, for it has “flown” to the forefront of my passions.

KATHERINE "KAT" BOWEN

Position: Lead Instructor & Student Liaison, Admin Support.

I am from a small town called Frostproof located in central Florida and grew up as the youngest of seven on 75 acres of nothing but the great outdoors, raised on homegrown protein and hose water. Because my parents somehow managed to homeschool us, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to further my education without letting my schooling get in the way. Learning how to manage my time and tasks to complete my responsibilities as a student encouraged me to invest myself in extracurricular activities that were not provided or offered in public education systems.

My parents and siblings are saints, for I was a little sponge with legs ready to learn any and everything I could, curious and eager to get my hands dirty with them; I am grateful for their inspiration and patience.

I unearthed my love for flying in 2019 when i accepted a job with Aviator PPG in Lake Wales, FL as an extra gig to put some money in the bank and was offered a full-time position originally as a warehouse assistant with no direct drive or interest to fly. I was focused on building my own business so flying truly never crossed my mind. But, a day or so later, I walked on the field, placed my hands on a glider, and of course, I was consumed with curiosity. I quickly adjusted my priorities and turned my focus toward my newfound passion. While I began accepting more responsibility within the company I found myself in the sky and on the field before and after work each day.

Flying has made a difference and brings me joy, but the community of which I am honored to be a part continues to add value to my life on a daily basis.

I have recently relocated to NC where Carolina PPG has given me the opportunity to apply my past experiences and continue to grow within the sport.
